The Black Dog inspires creativity -- its high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious tables encourage daydreaming, journaling, doodling and other precursors to art making.

West Bank School of Music to hold 35th anniversary event
Friday 21 October @ 00:39:08
MusicAfter a year of restoration, the West Bank School of Music (WBSM) is holding its 35th Anniversary Concert and Silent Auction on Oct. 22 beginning at 6 p.m. at the First Universalist Church at 3400 Dupont Avenue S., Minneapolis, headlined by Butch Thompson, Bruce Henry, Ellis and many of the WBSM faculty. The event is meant as a fundraiser for the school, which was founded in 1970 by composer/pianist Warren Park.

The WBSM has an opportunity to purchase its building from the Minneapolis Community Development Agency at the reduced price of $25,000. They have a $50,000 challenge grant from the McKnight Foundation and additional private funds have been raised. The School is currently working to raise their Phase I goal of $75,000, with a total goal of $300,000.

WBSM originally set up shop in an old boarding house on Sixth Street, just east of Cedar Avenue. The school’s physical home is over 100 years old, and the facilities need to be updated. Famous performers like Leo Kottke, Bonnie Raitt and Peter Ostroushko hung their hats and played their music at the school. For tickets or more information, call 612-333-6651. Tickets can also be purchased at WestBankMusic.org.||
