DEEP

The Black Dog inspires creativity -- its high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious tables encourage daydreaming, journaling, doodling and other precursors to art making.

Letters to the EditorLike lemmings marching to the sea-Americans appear destined, in fact, hellbent on ideological suicide. “Home of the brave, land of the free” has become passé apparently. You don't need a political pundit to interpret this year’s election to realize that many Americans have aggressively and vehemently cast the baby (Democrats) out will the bathwater, drowning out any passionate pleas by liberals, the working class, and the oppressed. Instead, the nation has turned to and endorsed corporate greed, i.e., Enron and political corruptness, i.e., the disenfranchisement of the electorate in Florida. Both events signal the dumbing and numbing of America. We are witnessing the public lynching of democracy. Well-meaning Americans can only be aghast, appalled, and no doubt shocked by such despicable behavior. Like a hot air balloon pricked and set adrift, the recent election has left Democrats not only with a sense of dread, but also a feeling of hopelessness. Gasping for breath, justice has been replaced by mob rule.

Historically, African Americans and other people of color know all too well what that means. There goes life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In the vernacular… “Oops, there it is…” “Boot upside your head!” Justice? The “Good Guys in white hats” have chosen instead a “good ol’ fashioned necktie party.” Texas style of course. We all stand by in morbid silence with haunting stares an watch the erosion of the principles we once so proudly hailed. No doubt, the dawning of a “kinder-gentler America.”

Hee-Haw, let freedom ring! The Re-Publicans led by the “Pres” have retrofitted the American dream, robbed us of our personal investments, stripped us of any sense of fair play, and put in place policy makers content to undermine the future of children of America yet unborn. This is indeed a sad day for all citizens, for the ugly American just got uglier.
