Will the Pulse refuse liquor ads?
Wednesday 26 May @ 16:35:34 |
My, my, aren’t we holier than thou - Mr. Felien - in your Tobacco Wars diatribe. Y’all sound rather jealous of the sum that City Pages has accepted from the manufacturers of a legal and taxed product. How much revenue has Pulse accepted in ad dollars from bars and clubs serving alcohol, and off-sale liquor establishments?
I’m not aware of anyone being injured or killed because they slammed their car into another vehicle after “too many cigarettes”. Nor am I aware of domestic abuse charges being filed because one of the involved “smoked too many cigarettes.” The same cannot be said for liquor.
I’m guessing the reason(s) Phyllis Kahn, Mike Paymar, and Linda Berglin (beyond their own, obvious, self serving need to be re-elected), haven’t sponsored anti-smoking legislation is because many of their constituents enjoy going out for a meal, perhaps an adult beverage (in moderation), and ... a cigarette.
And these same businesses are in their districts. By the way, Mr. Kaller, while I do not disagree with your response to the ‘Julie Ann’ letter regarding print and send pre-fab letters, surely none of the anti-smoking advocacy groups in Mr. Feliens’ piece would ever resort or stoop to such tactics, or would provide “form letters or pre-fab email” for their side, would they?
Finally, I’ve always enjoyed ‘Round The Dial by Tom Hallett, especially when he writes about music. Please allow me to nominate an Extreme Celebrity Drunk Driving candidate he missed: Former MPR host Katherine Lanpher and her “DUI-vehicular-hit-and-run-(car side-swipe)”. I’m sure Tom innocently overlooked her inclusion to instead devote a majority of column inches to bashing Bush-Cheney. Sincerely, Dave DeJarlais Saint Paul
