Letters to the Editor - Peace, Bush, Howell...
Wednesday 16 June @ 14:16:09 |
Thank you Pulse for peace coverage
I just wanted to thank Pulse for the excellent coverage of the anti-war movement. We are counting on independent media like your fine publication.

Bush has become Baghdad Bob
When Bush speaks on Iraq and Afghanistan, you have to wonder if he has lost his mind. Never before has a politician had to get in front of the television cameras with such awful acting skills and have so many lies to tell. The image and prestige of the U.S. Presidency has been taking some hard hits since Bush took office, because he is such a terrible liar. Previous presidents could tell believable lies, but not Bush Jr. He is making it much more difficult for future politicians to lie and be warmongers; it is an art form to deceive the American public and Bush is no artist.
In his June 1st Rose Garden press conference, Bush said, “The reports coming back from Afghanistan is that people have a sparkle in their eyes.” President Bush has become our version of Muhummad Saeed al-Sahaf, or as Americans like to call him, “Baghdad Bob” or “Comical Ali.” He was Saddam’s Information Minister, the man who would report things like “the infidels are being pushed back and destroyed.” He would report deliberate falsehoods, total lies, but this was his job. The Iraqi government at the time told him what to say and he did his job, no differently than Bush.
Bush may be president of the strongest nation in the world, but he is still a pawn, a puppet, no different than al-Sahaf. Bush gives us none of the reality of what is really going on in Iraq and Afghanistan; he is the one who has become comical.
We let him get away with this not because we are ignorant, but because we are lazy. You would have to be an idiot to believe what he is saying. U.S. troops have tortured civilian Iraqis and Afghans, and many have died in custody. It is now reported that U.S. soldiers randomly beat and took money from Iraqi and Afghan citizens.
I saw news footage of American soldiers crushing a poor Iraqi man’s old car with a tank because he was looting scrap wood – yes, scrap wood. The man said his car was all he had. The soldiers joked and laughed when they crushed the car. This, they said, was a common procedure when catching someone looting – if they had a car you would smash it.
And Bush continues to tell us we are over there for a the Iraqi and Afghan peoples and they have a “sparkle in their eyes.” Comical George, Baghdad Bush.

Thanks to Pulse and Lydia Howell
I just wanted to write and say thanks to The Pulse and how glad I am to have an alternative news source in print in the Twin cities. I thoroughly enjoy all the political articles especially those of Lydia Howell. She asks the pertinent questions and digs up the pertinent answers like no one else seems to be able to.
My big point is to thank you and your paper which is highly regarded and appreciated in these times of propoganda via corporate interests.
