The Christmas You Never Knew
Wednesday 20 December @ 21:18:34 |
Every year, far-right talking heads like Bill O’Reilly claim that Christmas is under attack from liberals, going so far last year as to call for boycotts of Sears because they called their catalog “Wish Book Holiday 2005” instead of something Christmas-specific. But just because lefties are an inclusive group doesn’t mean we don’t know how to have fun. Instead of fighting the battle on some semantic shore, this year we’re taking the war to their back yard and making Christmas over in our own wacky, unorthodox image. Join the lunatic fringe, fight the power and deck the halls.
Vlog Santa
While we’re on the subject of Christmas, let us point you to our cover model, Vlog Santa, a character created by Minnesota’s own Chuck Olsen. During December, when he’s not working on his daily video blog Minnesota Stories (mnstories.com), Olsen dons beard and suit and grabs a case of cheap beer to get into character as a cursing, decidedly blue collar Santa Claus located in the chilly Arctic North of ... Mounds View, Minnesota. Every few days, Vlog Santa puts up another episode of his decidedly cantankerous show, in which he answers questions sent in (via digital video) from his viewers. He generally either forgets or misunderstands their questions, often launching into hilariously inapporpiate digressions. Unlike Billy Bob Thonton’s Bad Santa, who is certainly a spiritual kin, Vlog Santa has a gentler nature—he may be gruff and boozy, but he’s essentially an amiable, often bewildered fellow. Check him out—and send him video questions—at vlogsanta.tv.
