Democratic Presidential Candidates on The Apollo Alliance:
Tuesday 27 January @ 21:41:56 |
General Wesley Clark:
“I applaud the efforts of the Apollo Alliance to combine the insight, interests and passion of our nation’s labor and environmental movements. The ‘New Energy for America’ report released today sets forth a bold vision of a future in which clean energy and advanced technology improve the quality of life for all Americans.

"Like the Apollo Alliance, I believe that government must play an important role in encouraging technological innovation. Nowhere is this role more critical than in the field of advanced energy technology. Under President Bush, the United States has lost more than 2.5 million manufacturing jobs."
"During this same period, greenhouse gas emissions rose, oil imports increased, and a massive section of our electricity grid fell. This pattern of neglect must end."
"Advanced energy technologies like fuel cells, efficient automobiles, clean coal technologies, and intelligent electricity transmission grids are essential to ensuring America’s prosperity in the 21st century. I look forward to working with the Apollo Alliance members to create a strong and secure America where our talented labor force is hard at work building a clean and safe future for our children.”
Senator John Kerry:

“The New Energy for America Plan released today by the Apollo Alliance is exactly the kind of thinking America needs to achieve true energy independence. We can only succeed if we come together, like the Apollo Alliance has, to balance our priorities for the environment, energy independence and job creation."
“America’s energy security depends on domestic, renewable energy sources. The Apollo Alliance is setting a course to that independence. In contrast, the Bush administration is continuing to take America down a path of dependence on foreign oil and failing to invest in new energy technologies. As president, I will reverse the Bush assault on our environment and end the control the energy lobby has over our government."
“Renewable energy sources are important because they are entirely under our control. No foreign government can embargo them. No terrorist can seize control of them. No cartel can play games with them. No American soldier will have to risk his or her life to protect them."
“I am proud to have worked with the partners in the Apollo Alliance throughout my career to protect our environment and to promote energy independence. I applaud their efforts today and I look forward to continuing our work together.”
Rep. Dennis Kucinich:

“We should strive for the day when half our energy is renewable. Wind energy in Iowa, solar energy in New Mexico, tidal energy along our coasts—these renewable technologies already exist. We should push forward with a Global Green Deal, in the tradition of Franklin Delano Roosevelt—a renewable energies investment program that puts Americans to work, builds up our renewable industries, and transfers ‘small is beautiful’ technologies to the developing world.”
Governor Howard Dean:

“Developing a clean energy economy is vital for three reasons: it will enhance our security, it will reduce global warming, and it will create millions of jobs."
"The study released today confirms what should have already been obvious to the Bush administration. This administration’s fealty to its corporate benefactors in the oil industry has caused our nation to fall behind in what will be one of the most important new industries of the twenty first century."
“If we take action now by investing in clean energy technologies like wind, solar and hydrogen, America can claim its rightful place as the world’s leader in this burgeoning market. At the same time, we can create millions of high paying jobs, tens of thousands in Iowa alone. If we continue to hesitate, we will forfeit leadership in this critical industry, and all the jobs that go with it.”
