The directorial debut of Gary Hustwit (producer of the award-winning Wilco documentary, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart”) focuses on one of the most ubiquitous typefaces in the world. Through rare interviews with a range of illustrious graphic designers and typographers, including Matthew Carter, Massimo Vignelli, Wim Crouwel, Neville Brody, Stefan Sagmeister, Michael Bierut, David Carson, Paula Scher, and Experimental Jetset, Helvetica tracks a typeface drawn by a little-known Swiss designer from the late 1950s to the present.
